About Us
The
Reggae Shack Café is a mid-scale, reggae-themed Jamaican restaurant,
serving authentic Jamaican dishes and Jamaican-inspired vegetarian
cuisine. The Reggae Shack Café opened its doors on September 18, 2003,
marking the restaurant a Virgo. Located at 619 West University Avenue
in Gainesville, FL, the Reggae Shack Café was ranked one of the best
places to eat by the Gainesville Sun in 2005. We are conveniently
located about six blocks from the University of Florida campus, five
miles from Interstate 75, and only a few blocks from historic downtown
Gainesville.
We
also aim to promote the positive aspects of Jamaican culture through
music, ambiance, community support, and cultural education. We invite
you to come experience, taste, feel, and enjoy our passion for the
Jamaican people, food, and culture - a culture so rich you can taste it.
The
Reggae Shack Café logo is a shack under a coconut tree and dancing to
reggae music, and our slogan is "Culture so rich you can taste it." Our
goal is to serve delicious dishes firmly based in Jamaican cooking
techniques, spices, and heritage without compromise but with clear
consciousness of the evolution of Jamaican cooking worldwide of which
we are at the forefront.
